Benish Hussain, MD

Benish Hussain, MD, specializes in Internal Medicine and practices with the Women’s Primary Care office in Wallingford. Dr. Hussain earned her Medical Degree from Bayero University, and went on to complete post-graduate training at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in New York. Julian Falla, MD is a primary care physician practicing with MidState Medical Group Primary Care Specialists in Meriden. He earned his medical degree from the National University of Colombia, and completed post-graduate training in an Internal Medicine Residency Program at Danbury Hospital. Dr. Helmeczi earned her medical degree from the University Medical School of Debrecen in Hungary, and completed all medical training in the United States at the Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven. Following her Residency in Internal Medicine, Dr. Helmeczi went on to serve as an attending physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine, and then a primary care physician in private practice in East Haven, Connecticut. She is a member of the American Medical Association, Connecticut State Medical Society and New Haven County Medical Association.

Marina Ionita, MD is a board certified internist who is currently practicing with MidState Medical Group Primary Care Specialists of Meriden. Dr. Ionita is a graduate of the Carol Davila University of Medicine and completed a Residency in Internal Medicine at Danbury Hospital affiliated with the Yale University School of Medicine. She also served as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. There, she also completed a Fellowship in Geriatrics. Aziz Benbrahim, MD, FACS

Aziz Benbrahim, MD joined MidState Medical Center as a general surgeon in 2002 and was named the medical director of the hospital’s Weight Management Program in 2004. From 2004-07, he served as the medical director of the division of General Surgery. He is currently the director of the Division of Surgery. A graduate of Mohammed V University and the University School of Medicine in Morocco, Dr. Benbrahim is board certified with special expertise in minimally invasive surgery. He began his surgical training in France and then completed a 6-year residency at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven, an affiliate of Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Benbrahim spent three years as a Research Fellow in the Department of Vascular Surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston. He is a member of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, the Connecticut State Medical Society and the New Haven County Medical Association.

Louis Meyer, MD, FACS

Louis Meyer, MD, is a board certified general surgeon with special interest in the surgical treatment of breast cancer. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania and received his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He then completed five years of post-doctoral surgical training at St. Luke's Hospital Center in New York City. He was a clinical Fellow of the American Cancer Society and served two years on active duty with the U.S. Air Force at Plattsburg, NY, where he was Chief of Surgery at the U.S. Air Force Hospital. Dr. Meyer has been active in hospital affairs and has served as Chairman of Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Director of Division of Surgery, and Chairman of the Board of Directors. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgeons, and a member of the Connecticut Society of American Board Surgeons, the American Society of General Surgeons, and the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons.

Elizabeth Riordan, MD, FACS

Elizabeth Riordan, MD is a board certified general surgeon who also serves as the Director of Breast Services at MidState Medical Center. She specializes in breast surgery, but also performs comprehensive general surgery that includes but is not limited to, laparoscopic procedures, abdominal surgery, head and neck surgery and bariatric surgery. After receiving an undergraduate degree from Duke University and a Master's of Science degree from Columbia University, Dr. Riordan earned her medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. She then completed her residency training at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Dr. Riordan is a Fellow of the American College of Surgery and a member of good standing with the American Society of Breast Surgeons and the National Consortium of Breast Centers. While at MidState, Dr. Riordan spearheaded the application and the ultimate acceptance of the MidState Breast Center as an accredited center recognized by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. In addition, she has developed the Early Lymphedema Detection and Treatment Program offered out of the MidState Surgical Specialists Office.

Charles Kim, MD

Jonathan Hasson, MD

Jonathan Hasson, MD, is a board certified vascular and endovascular surgeon who performs a comprehensive range of procedures including aneurysm surgery and stenting, no-incision abdominal and popliteal stent grafts, complex endovascular tibial artery interventions, carotid surgery and more.
Dr. Hasson completed his undergraduate and graduate medical studies in a joint six-year biomedical program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Albany Medical College of Union University in 1977. He completed his general surgical residency at NYU/Bellevue Medical Center in New York City and Michael Reese Medical Center in Chicago in 1982. Dr. Hasson spent four years as a research fellow in surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and then completed a year as a clinical fellow in vascular surgery at MGH and was also an instructor in surgery at Harvard Medical School.

Astrid G. Clarke, MD is a per diem Primary Care Physician practicing at the MidState Medical Group Walk-In Center in North Haven. Dr. Clarke is board certified in Internal Medicine, and has specialized in medicine and pediatrics at Bridgeport Hospital and Yale-New Haven Hospital. Daniel Schwartz, MD, FACS

Daniel S. Schwartz, MD, a board certified general surgeon, has been practicing in the Meriden area for more than 27 years. In addition to performing a wide variety of general, abdominal and vascular surgical procedures, he also sub-specializes in the treatment of varicose veins. This includes surgery, injection sclerotherapy, laser treatments and newer state-of-the-art minimally invasive techniques, such as radiofrequency ablation. He also offers cosmetic laser procedures for spider veins, hair removal, age and sun spots and sun damaged skin. Additionally, Dr. Schwartz has expertise in the area of wound care. He is a staff physician at both Advanced Wound and Hyperbaric Medicine at MidState Medical Center in Meriden, and The Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine at Hartford Hospital.
A graduate of Franklin Marshall College, he received his medical degree from The Chicago Medical School and completed residency training in surgery at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Her practice emphasis is in providing comprehensive preventive care, as well as specific disease management. Hamp Pratt, MD

Dr. Pratt has practiced medicine for over 30 years. He has been an active physician at the MidState Medical Group Walk-In Center since 2001. Prior to seeing patients at the Walk-In Center, Dr. Pratt provided care for routine and complex general surgery problems at CBS Surgical Group for over 25 years. Dr. Pratt also served as Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery at Meriden-Wallingford Hospital throughout the 1980s.
Dr. Pratt received his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine and completed postgraduate training at Baylor College of Medicine Affiliated Hospitals, LSU Surgical Service Charity Hospital, and Cancer Traineeship at Lahey Clinic (now Lahey-Hitchcock Clinic). He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery.

Jill Tanner, APRN, MSN

Jill Tanner, APRN, MSN, joined the MidState Medical Group Walk-In Center in July 2008 as a nurse practitioner. She has over five years of experience in urgent care. Prior to joining us, Jill worked primarily in the Emergency Department at Griffin Hospital, but also served as a staff nurse on the medical/surgical floors of both Griffin Hospital in Derby and St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport. A graduate of Mount Saint Mary College with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Jill went on to earn her Master’s degree in Nursing from Quinnipiac University in 2008. She has also taught nursing courses at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield. She is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and has sat on various hospital committees, including the Infectious Disease Committee at Griffin Hospital and Diabetic Committee at St. Vincent’s Medical Center.

She spent eight years in the MidState Medical Center Emergency Department, and two years at Danbury, Waterbury and Hartford Hospital emergency rooms. Christina completed a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology at Geneva College and received a Certificate to be a Physician Assistant from Western University of Health Sciences in 1998. Shirley Samy, MSN, APRN

Shirley Samy, MSN, APRN, comes to MidState Medical Group with over 15 years of experience in the primary care setting. Prior to MidState, Shirley provided physical exams and primary care for a wide range of acute and chronic diseases in the Greater Waterbury area. She also has extensive experience in urgent care, having worked in the Emergency Departments at Waterbury Hospital, Middlesex Hospital, and the former Veterans Memorial Hospital in Meriden. Shirley holds a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Western Connecticut State University, and a Master’s degree in Nursing from Yale University School of Nursing. She is board certified as an Adult Nurse Practitioner and continues to be a clinical preceptor for Yale University School of Nursing Graduate Program. She is a veteran of the U. S.
